// DIY ottoman re-upholstery

Another DIY project I've been working on. I had an old red ottoman at home and it didn't fit my idea of my new room so I decided to re-upholster it.

1. This is how it looked before - just a really simple ottoman. I took the legs off first.

2. When choosing a fabric you need to make sure that it is a thicker one for furniture, ask for help in the store if you are not sure.

3. Remove all the old staples. I used a small knife for that, but I guess that's not the safest way to do it...

4. Measure around your ottoman to find out which size to cut the fabric. Don't forget to add at least 5 cm bonus on every side as you will have to fold the fabric. You should come out with a square piece of fabric.

5. Fold the edges of the fabric inwards to create a neat border. Make sure the fabric lies smooth around the cushion but don't pull it too much. Staple once into the middle of each side of the ottoman.

6. Turn the ottoman around. 

7. Pull the fabric on every edge of the cusion towards you and fixate the fabric with needles on each corner. 

8. Turn the ottoman around again. Cut the fabric 7cm from the edge. Remove the needles and fold one side of the fabric around the corner and under the other part of the fabric. Make sure to not have any creases under the fabric. Now take the side of the fabric that is still hanging out and fold it inwards, to get a nice edge.

9. Fasten the fabric with staples. Again, make sure that you don't pull it too much.

10. Secure the fabric on each edge of the ottoman with needle and thread.

I decided to paint the legs of my ottoman with a simple dark wood stain.

That's not how you would do it as a professional but I think it's a simple way for beginners.
